We Continue To Permit Ourselves To Be Divided When We Should Be Supporting Every Avenue Revealing A Truth That Will Compel The Prosecution Of G.W. Bush.

"The action I am taking is no more than a radical measure to hasten the explosion of truth and justice. I have but one passion: to enlighten those who have been kept in the dark, in the name of humanity which has suffered so much and is entitled to happiness. My fiery protest is simply the cry of my very soul. Let them dare, then,
to bring me before a court of law and let the enquiry take place in
broad daylight!"

- Emile Zola, J'accuse! (1898) –

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude
than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask
not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed
you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and
may posterity forget
that ye were our countrymen!”

I understand the debate and I prefer outright legal action and prosecution, but to choose up sides at the exclusion of any opportunity to get the facts on the table in a process of escalating evidence collection is stupid, ego-driven or naive.  They are just going right along with Republican opponents of even a commission consideration.

But then; this is what I have come to expect from the self-ordained leaders of The Progressive Form a Circle; Lock, Load and FIRE crowd!!!

Dont close any door and dont stopping trying to open the next door!

"I Was Only Following Orders!" | Being serious about torture. Or not.

By William Blum

The noted Israeli columnist, Uri Avnery, writing about the Israeli case, tried to capture the spirit of Israeli society that produces such war criminals and war crimes. He observed: "This system indoctrinates its pupils with a violent tribal cult, totally ethnocentric, which sees in the whole of world history nothing but an endless story of Jewish victimhood. This is a religion of a Chosen People, indifferent to others, a religion without compassion for anyone who is not Jewish, which glorifies the God-decreed genocide described in the Biblical book of Joshua."11

It would take very little substitution to apply this statement to the United States — like "American" for "Jewish" and "American exceptionalism" for "a Chosen People"…

Limbaugh Runs With Homeless-Cell Phone Smear

(Fat blow-hard, foul mouthed, empty headed, druggy, militant anti-feminist, pretentious egomaniacal bastard who only cares about his ratings and his alcoholic golf buddies and financial advisors.)

http://mediamatters.org/items/200903060032

During the March 6 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh, discussing a photo of Michelle Obama's March 5 visit to a Washington, D.C., homeless shelter that featured a man photographing Obama using a cell phone, said that "the homeless and the poor are showing up taking pictures of her with their cell phones." Limbaugh later added: "What we have, ladies and gentlemen, is a giant welfare state that's in the process of being manufactured. That the Democrat [sic] Party will preside over forever. Because everybody or enough people are going to need the goodwill of Democrats in power in order to get by.

Like, you're going to have to see the first lady behind the counter at McDonald's when you go in there as your poverty-stricken day drags on -- take a picture with your cell phone while you go in there and get your McNuggets or whatever's being handed out that day." However, homeless advocates have stated that cell phones are a "lifeline" for the homeless and noted the importance of having a stable phone number in trying to find jobs.

The St. Petersburg Times reported on April 9, 2007, on the "increasingly important" status of cell phones for the homeless:

Though it may seem strange to own a cell phone when you don't have a roof over your head, homeless advocates say the phones are becoming increasingly important to people living on the street.

They offer the best chance homeless people have at getting a call back from a potential employer. They are the most reliable way to stay in touch with family members who don't live in the area.

"There is a misperception that homeless people are lazy, unemployed people who don't work," said Lesa Weikel, a spokeswoman for the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County. "A high percentage of homeless people do actually work. It may be that they can't afford a home or a place to live, but they do get enough money to pay for a cell phone."

Last month, when a homeless man was hit and killed by a driver who didn't stop on Nebraska Avenue, his friend told police detectives to check the man's cell phone for a number to call his mother about the accident.

"It's absolutely become a lifeline," said Cory Crocker, who along with his wife, Tracey, provides services to the homeless through Covenant House Ministries in Sulphur Springs. "Some folks are only homeless for a very brief period of time, and that lifeline is hope."…

Sen. Nelson Wants Benchmarks to Measure Afghan Progress

A leading moderate Senate Democrat is calling for clear benchmarks to measure progress in Afghanistan as the Obama administration reviews U.S. strategy there.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that the American people are given a clear objective for the mission in Afghanistan, one which contemplates defense, diplomacy and development,” Sen.Ben Nelson of Nebraska, a member of the Armed Services Committee, wrote in a March 4 letter to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates .

Nelson said he may try to add benchmarks to the upcoming war supplemental bill this spring or the fiscal 2010 defense authorization bill later this year.

There has been growing concern in recent months about the direction of U.S. policy toward Afghanistan amid a resurgence of the Taliban, the Islamist militia which ran the country before the 2001 U.S. invasion. Afghanistan’s new central government has been unable to secure the country.

Last month, President Obama ordered the deployment of 17,000 additional troops to Afghanistan, to augment the 38,000 already there.

Meanwhile, an Afghanistan strategy review is under way, with results expected in the coming weeks.

Nelson was among the Senate moderates who pushed for the inclusion of 18 benchmarks for Iraq in the fiscal 2007 supplemental war funding bill. Those benchmarks called for concrete progress on a variety of issues, including the integrity of Iraqi security forces, the allocation of reconstruction funds, and the fair treatment of minority political parties.

Republican "holds" in the Senate, Bloomberg reports, are preventing two key economists from joining the President's Council of Economic Advisers.

March 2 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama’s economic advisers are increasingly concerned about the U.S. Senate’s delay in confirming the nominations of Austan Goolsbee and Cecilia Rouse to the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

Without Senate confirmation, the two economists are barred from advising the president as the administration tackles the worst financial crisis in 70 years and tries to advance the spending plan Obama submitted to Congress last week.

Goolsbee, who has a reputation for competence and centrism, and Rouse, who specializes in education policy, are hardly the most controversial figures. Unless one of them has tax or nanny problems, they are likely to be approved by unanimous consent. If there were ever a time when our country needed economists like a fire needs firefighters, this is it.

Bloomberg News, WSJ op-ed blame Obama for stock drop, ignore longer-term trend

http://mediamatters.org/items/200903060030

(Wouldn’t it be interesting to simply ask all the f@#%*+g Critics exactly what it would take to make then confident and happy?)

In a March 6 article, headlined " 'Obama Bear Market' Punishes Investors as Dow Slumps," Bloomberg News reported: "President Barack Obama now has the distinction of presiding over his own bear market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen 20 percent since Inauguration Day, the fastest drop under a newly elected president in at least 90 years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg." Similarly, in a March 6 Wall Street Journal op-ed headlined "Obama's Radicalism is Killing the Dow," Michael J. Boskin, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President George H.W. Bush, wrote: "It's hard not to see the continued sell-off on Wall Street and the growing fear on Main Street as a product, at least in part, of the realization that our new president's policies are designed to radically re-engineer the market-based U.S. economy, not just mitigate the recession and financial crisis."

By contrast, the Financial Times' Dan McCrum stated on the March 3 edition of MSNBC Live that "it's the economy which is driving the market down here" and that "what's important is that President Obama doesn't try to address that in the short term. He's quite right that short-term market movements aren't -- shouldn't be driving government policy. What he needs to do is concentrate on fixing the economy, and the market will sort itself out."

Indeed, the Dow Jones industrial average was on a downward trajectory months before the election. Bloomberg News itself acknowledged in the article that "[t]he Dow entered its most recent bear market on July 2, 2008, when a 167-point decrease gave it a 20 percent loss from its record 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007" but ignored the possibility that the current drop in the Dow was a continuation of the earlier trend:
